Jordan: Wednesday, September 8

On the morning we ate at our airbnb, the best breakfast yet, falafel, hummus, veggies, and pita.  Then our host, Khaled, dropped us off at the point where the Jordan Trail starts for Petra.

We walked up the mountain and over the other side winding up at the Monastery and continuing on. We ate lunch at a restaurant and then split up. Nadia and Joshua hung out at the Cafe while we did an additional hike to the high place of sacrifice.  We came close to making it back on time except that a donkey driver told us we were going the wrong way.  By the time we figured out that we had been going the right way, it was too late, so we hired the donkeys to ride to the end of the trail which was the very start of Petra then ran back through the canyon and the main street to the high temple on the Roman Colonnaded Street, about 2 miles, where we met our friends and only had a few minutes wait before Khaled arrived and walked us along the mountain to his family's cave where we had a barbecue and spent the night. Those who slept outside dealt with sounds of cats yowling, donkeys and camels braying and other loud noises.  But the inside of the cave was stifling hot,  and the big bed was made of cement covered only with a few blankets. They had solar power which ran the lights. I was the only one who thought it was a great experience partially because I was the only one who slept.
