Jordan: Sunday, September 5: Aqaba and the Red Sea

Jordan: Sunday, September 5: Aqaba and the Red Sea

In the morning we walked along the beach in front of the hotel. We had hoped to be able to walk to our boatride, but it was in the Movenpick Resort Area and well guarded, so we walked back to our car and drove to our location.

Next we had a two hour ride in a glass bottom boat, actually a boat with the underneath submerged enough to create a room with glass walls.

We started off sitting in the top area but as soon as there was something to see, we went underneath where we could see underwater from the windows on the side.

We saw a very wide variety of coral as well as  many of the things that divers see such as the military airplane sunk by the king 4 years ago, a tank sunk in 1999 which already had a variety of coral growing on it, and a boat.  The airplane had recently broken apart in a storm and the fake skeleton wearing a pilot's uniform is being repaired. The tank was easier to make out although the visibility through the thick glass was nowhere near as good as the view from snorkeling.

After the boat rode we had lunch at The Sea Bass, a fancy restaurant decorated with a boat theme near where the boat was docked.

We went into Aqaba hoping to go to the Aqaba Fort or attached museum. Both were still under construction,  but we were able to see the flag from the Arab revolt.

In the afternoon we swam in the Red Sea and the pool.  In the evening we went into Aqaba to the Al Shami Restaurant for dinner, mainly because the restaurant had canafa.
