Wednesday, 6. July: Part III: Karl Marx Allee

Next we walked along Karl Marx Allee formerly Stalin Allee (Allee means boulevard), which Stalin built to showcase how good communism is. We stopped by a place advertised as a book store, but it was a bookstore during communist times. For some reason the bookstore had been kicked out after the wall fell, so we went to the Sybille café for ice cream instead. Sybille Café, besides having good ice cream, had a mini museum of what the street had looked like under Communism. After that we walked back to our room and packed.

After we finished packing, we walked along East Side Gallery one last time and took city train back from Warshauer Station. The wall had an entirely different character at night. It was packed with people unlike the 5 a.m. visit where we had been the only ones.

(And from a shop on Alexanderplatz:

Bad means bath)
