Enid's Trips: April 10-11: Rome, Italy

The flight left DTW on April 10 at 6:30 with no delays. I sat next to friendly German person and practiced my German until after dinner at which point I slept most of the rest of the flight.

The plane arrived in the Frankfurt Airport on April 11 around 8:30 AM, and I had a couple of hours to wait for my cousin Annemarie. While exploring the airport, I ran into some people from my church who had gone to downtown Frankfurt during their long layover for a trip to Israel.

After that I decided to walk outside for a little bit. Just as I stepped out of the airport, I saw Annemarie getting out of her car. I went back with her to park her car, and then we had an uneventful trip to Rome on Lufthansa. Once there we took train to west side of Rome where Nicola and Elisabeth met us at the station and took us to their home in Finocchio.

Elisabeth, Annemarie's sister, is married to Nicola who is of Italian origin but can speak German. They own one side of a three store duplex where each level is a separate apartment. Elisabeth and Nikola live in the middle flat.], Nikola had an office in the basement, and Annemarie and her husband had lived in the upstairs flat. Since they are hoping to move to a different house, they have started packing and consolidating.

The Sitting Room

The house has an extensive gray water system. Here the water from the washing machine goes down to a storage tank in the shed where it is used to water the garden.
